slapd is located in libexec of your local directory, i.e. /usr/local/libexec/slapd which is usually not in your PATH. The rc.d-script is just the startfile, not the executable itself. Alternatively, you can look at the version of your installed package, e.g. pkg_info | grep openldap Regards, Julian
