Because this is the responsibility of the administrator - to decide WHAT to upgrade, WHY and WHEN, and even HOW. The base system tools (such as sysinstall, freebsd-upgrade) do not have any clue about what's going on in /usr/local. This subtree is reserved for installed applications (that do NOT belong to the base system). There are two files you should ALWAYS have a look at when performing an update: /usr/src/UPDATING /usr/ports/UPDATING They continue very important information for the person who does the administration for a particular system, e. g. it tells you that libxyz has gotten a major update and all applications linked to this library need to be recompiled. > Surely thats what "Inspecting system" is meant to be doing. I could come up with hundreds of other ideas what "Inspecting system" could mean. :-) > No matter if it is FreeBSD 1.0 or the prior version to the upgrade -- Polytropon Magdeburg, Germany Happy FreeBSD user since 4.0 Andra moi ennepe, Mousa, ... _______________________________________________ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-questions-unsubscr...@freebsd.org"
