I don't know xclip and I'm not shure to understand what you want, but I'm normally sitting at an Text-Terminal, so there's CLI only too. I use screen, where I can copy with '[Ctrl-a] [' and paste with '[Ctrl-a] ]', from 'window' to 'window' or in the same 'window' as well. I's a fine tool, but perhaps not what you want?
