Yes, you're quite right. But unfortunately, it's not a panacea. Remember the recent bumps to libintl which affected an insane number (i.e. nearly all) of ports? Update just this port after upgrading, and nearly all your existing ports are unusable and need to be recompiled against libintl.so.8.
