in /etc/ttys I think, right? By default (in my /etc/ttys) on ttyv8 there
is an xdm-Daemon configured I think:
ttyv6 "/usr/libexec/getty Pc" cons25 on secure
ttyv7 "/usr/libexec/getty Pc" cons25 on secure
#ttyv8 "/usr/local/bin/xdm -nodaemon" xterm off secure
ttyv8 "/usr/local/bin/xdm -nodaemon" xterm on secure
(I changed it to "on" because I want to start xdm at boot).

Is there a getty (or something else) configured in your /etc/ttys?
