It's not completely done yet. Some build tools were proprietary (Red Hat started the IcedTea project to rectify that). Some 2D graphics and sound stuff was not free. I've read that the developer of the 2D graphics stuff OK-ed the open sourcing, and that Sun is rewriting the sound bits.
