Are we aiming at the wrong target, here? I used the fixit CD to examine ad0s3, where my missing files reside.
What I found was that (eg) /bin, /etc, /dev were full of files/directories, but /var and /usr were empty. I didn't ask dump/restore to delete anything, and did not ask rm to remove the files from /var or /usr/everything. The command I used to copy was: dump 0af - / | restore xf - Is it dump or restore that have been causing the problem? home@ on ad0s3 still links to /usr/home so that if I "mount /dev/ad0s3 /mnt/other" in my working system on ad2, ls /mnt/other/home shows my working home directory - a bit startling when you first see it. Don't see this as significant, but you gurus might. -- Brian ----------------------------------------------- This message sent through Adam Internet Webmail http://www.adam.com.au To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
