I have a problem with userland PPP that has persisted ever since 4.5 (currently using 4.6 and the problem is still there). I am on DSL and therefore connecting through the tun0 device and PPPoE.Have you tried adjusting the MTU? ISPs which use PPPoE need to use a slightly smaller MTU than the default; for instance, Verizon.net wants 1492.
