Check that localhost is defined in /etc/hosts and your name resolution is working in /etc/nsswitch.conf

Thanks for the quick answer.

Unfortunately, sending to just "root" does exactly the same as "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

I agree I proabably set something wrong *years* ago -- but it's only showing up today!!

I'm really unsure where to change what.
