What are pX and #X after the version displayed by 'uname'? As far as I know pX is the 'patch set' and #X is the number of times the kernel has been updated.

However, yesterday I updated the kernel (of 6.1 installed from the boot CD and then FTP - some time ago) and p jumped to p10, while #X remained zero. I thought pX changes only when world is built and #X should have been changed to #1.

What I did was -

cvsup-ed src with tag RELENG_6_1

cd /usr/src
create MYKERNEL config
(just commented cpu I486_CPU and I586_CPU)

make buildkernel KERNCONF=MYKERNEL
make installkernel KERNCONF=MYKERNEL
reboot
