To further elaborate: It's kind of like building a ship in a bottle. There is no shell access to the box. However, files can be uploaded and downloaded and arbitrary commands can be executed via a web interface. Using these mechanisms I have explored the filesystem and can verify /etc/rc.conf does not exist. That is not entirely surprising because the overview documentation for monowall says they have moved as much of the initialization code into PHP as possible.
