The other method .cshrc should work on logout/login and there may be a way to do the /etc/profile method without a reboot. The .cshrc is limited to each user's shell while the /etc/profile is "global" to all of the shells except the root. It's been a long time since I set it up, I just know it works and I prefer it for my needs.
