I think I finally figured this out --- by having two different apache installs: one with ssl the other with perl.
installing both apache13-modssl and apache13-modperl could/should cause problems - they should be marked as conflicting, if not submit a pr.
Installing apache13-modssl and mod_perl should not cause a problem, this is the solution I am refering to.
I want mod_perl compiled in statically. I have been finding that if I leave it as a loadable module, I get my signal 11 core dumps in Apache
If you get a coredump then please investigate the problem, submit here or submit a problem report.
I must say that I have installed mod_perl mostly to have it supported since my dynamic web is still php. However, I have tested and it works fine.
