maybe I'm missing something, but isn't sudo what you'd want here? newer versions of sudo support -s which gives the person a root shell. Before there was support for -s, the command I would let people run would be /bin/some_shell. If someone hammered something I would look to see who used sudo last... it's not definitive because I don't use accounting, but it gave me an idea on whom to go talk too...
the only part that doesn't jive with sudo would be: > > > Hi!
