I'd like to thank Joe Marcus Clarke for his assistance in getting past the fact that a repeated error building gconf-editor was keeping me from getting to Gnome2. The culprit was yet another outdated /usr/X11R6/include directory (gdk-pixbuf, to be precise). Thank you Joe. I hope I have learned something in this process.
