I would have gone straight to bugzilla from freebsd-ports had I not been
instructed to try posting here first.

I am new to FreeBSD (just this week) and pkg is surprisingly easy to use. The
first thing I installed on FreeBSD was PyPy2.

I've used CPython 3.x for years, and it does not suit all use cases. PyPy is
independent of CPython, though on installing it from ports, it says it is
deprecated due to depending on the EOL'd "Python 2.7"

PyPy3 is not what I need, but since PyPy continues to support PyPy 2 I believe
this deprecation is in error. Deprecating CPython 2.7 makes sense; deprecating
PyPy 2 less so; the latter is an actively maintained implementation.

It was suggested I post here about this. If this is unfixable and you are going
to remove PyPy 2 anyway, I would still like to be put in touch with the
maintainer so that I can compile PyPy 2 for FreeBSD for my own purposes. If
this deprecation is found to be in error and PyPy2 is kept, that's even better
of course. Please advise.
