If you go to the work directory and run "./configure --help" the output contains this: --enable-shared[=PKGS] build shared libraries [default=no] --enable-static[=PKGS] build static libraries [default=yes] This means shared libraries aren't built by default, but you can enable them by adding "CONFIGURE_ARGS=--enable-shared" to the port Makefile. You'll have to make some changes to pkg-plist but running "make check-plist' will help you with that. You can also delete files/patch-ltmain.sh.
