It turns out that the dns/bind9* ports were not in the shape everybody was hoping for and not up to snuff to "just" replace the BIND that was in base out of the box. In the short term, there are a number of tasks, like reintroducing chroot (or even better, jail) support, that need to be fixed, but also in the long term, maintaining BIND, including adding BIND10, is probably more than a one-man task.
Given the wide use of BIND, it should be easy to form a small team to do so (unless we find someone with a lot of free time on his hands :) ) and I'm looking for volunteers. I also wonder if that team should think a bit bigger and make it a ports-dns team instead and be open to also look after other DNS related ports (though not steal them from current maintainers). Thought and, especially, volunteers are most welcome.
