Well no one else spoke up, so I will.

Please do not recommend that users run 'make makesum' to bypass a
checksum mismatch. The command is there to make it easier for
maintainers to update their ports. The checksums are used to make sure
that end users are installing the same version of the software that the
maintainer has tested and approved. Bypassing that feature is a security
risk.
