Yes.
Doing further investigation, it seems like the whole things has to do
with NFS, although I wasn't able to shed any more light on this.
I still hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Start the rpc-lockd .
in /etc/rc.conf:
rpc_lockd_enable="YES"
then
/etc/rc.d/lockd start
