make installkernel DESTDIR=/ INSTKERNNAME=<kernel name> will work without 
bothering pkgbase. Note that starting from FreeBSD 16 (or maybe 15 I don't know 
if the change was MFCed to stable/15) you don't need DESTDIR=/ part.
