Another workaround is to switch to netgraph. I have eventually did that
(ng_bridge, ng_ether, ng_eiface). I had to write some startup scripts to manage
netgraph topology but my system has been very stable since I have done that.
I'm running with LACP, vlans, bridging, CARP and PF on amd64 and rpi3 (as a
backup). I cannot say much for the performance of this setup - it seems to be
fine for my home needs but I haven't tried load testing it. Not talking about
performance of Pi obviously.
