In mpd.conf, you need to set the interface to a valid netgraph interface name, e.g. ng0. mpd will create it for you if it does not exist. The physical interface (e.g. nve0) is specified in mpd.links, not here. Additionally, you have a blank line between the "new" command and the first "set" command.
