What protocol? IPsec? PPTP? PPTP with mpd has some problems, at least with the Cisco box we have. The Cisco box likes to assign remote peers its own IP address, which would cause routing loops if mpd didn't catch it. (Note that this could be due to misconfiguration; I still haven't been able to find the support staff person who is in charge of the box...)
