I didn't have stability trouble with unionfs, but I only used it for a few
weeks before I switched to using zfs clones because I wanted to delegate
zfs datasets to jails. To upgrade, I basically didn't, instead I'd just
create a new upgraded base then change the jail fstab to point to the new
base.
