I'll just warn you that if you're planning to use snapshots for your own purposes, to first do an extensive stress test on a non-critical machine with backed up data. I've had a lot of problems with snapshots occasionally causing deadlocks which hang the machine. This was under 6.x but I had the same problem under many previous versions, so I don't necessarily expect that it's fixed. Also, while it's never happened to me, I've heard other people report data corruption.
