I asked on -questions a year ago. No response. IMO the man page(s) should include things like how to turn SATA NCQ on/off. And if the device drivers don't provide the functionality, they should. So IMO this is a PR. But we can run it past -hackers, that's fine. So, for those of you on -hackers just tuning in, can someone please tell me how to turn SATA NCQ on? Thanks! Here's the PR in question: atacontrol cap ad4 reports: Feature Support Enable Value Vendor Native Command Queuing (NCQ) yes - 31/0x1F I have looked in the atacontrol(8) man page, the ata(4) man page, I grepped all the section 4 & 8 man pages, and I did an online search, but I cannot find how to turn on SATA NCQ. Write performance without NCQ is unacceptable. NCQ would improve write performance significantly. It is not obvious if this is "just" a documentation problem, or if NCQ support needs to be added to the various SATA controller device drivers.
