I don't know about *multiple* text-only vtys, but it's easy enough to get the system into a no-graphics mode.

I suppose you can simulate virtual terminals from there using "screen", which is in Fink, but it isn't quite the same thing. :-(

Also, X11 "feels" quite slow if you're
used to X11.  (I'm writing this from KDE running under XDarwin on a ti
powerbook, 867MHz).
Apple's new X11-for-Mac-OS-X beta software is much faster than XDarwin.
