Note: You do not have to be in SUM to install the world and/or the kernel. You can install them just fine in multi-user mode. I do this all the time on remote system, as dropping to SUM would knock off the SSH connection. All you have to do is make sure no one else is logged in, stop as many services and daemons as possible, then do the installworld, and reboot.
