If you have portupgrade installed you can change /etc/periodic.conf: ---snip--- weekly_status_pkg_enable="YES" pkg_version="/usr/local/sbin/portversion -O" pkg_version_index="" ---snip--- This will tell you in the weekly mail about ports which could be updated.
