FYI, I built them under 4.0.1 (if that matters).

$ gcc -v
gcc version 2.7.2.1
$ ld -v
GNU ld version 2.8.1 (with BFD 2.8.1)
$ as -v
GNU assembler version 2.8.1 (bsd/os), using BFD version 2.8.1
