I just noticed that on my 2.2.6 System, I had to enable the options ATAPI options ATAPI_STATIC device wcd0 before the following had any effect: controller wdc1 at .... disk wd2 at wdc1 drive 0 disk wd3 at wdc1 drive 1 in my kernel config file.
