For example when I copy the box to do "git remote" this is what gets pasted:
% git remote -v
freebsd https://git.freebsd.org/${repo}.git (fetch)
freebsd https://git.freebsd.org/${repo}.git (push)
note the "%" character which is the prompt. Pasting that of course does not
work.
