I thought I had tried the speakers on framework 16 and they were working?
Maybe I'm misremembering.
Are you saying before this patch the speakers weren't working at all, or
with worse sound quality?
The comments in the linked patch says
Since sound quality from pin 23 seems to be better, assign this one as a
