What do you have in your ~/.xinitrc? Can you also send the output of pkg_info? Also, have you tried removing ~/.gnome2/session, and see if that helps?

Joe, I just tried removing the session file. Nothing changed.
Someone suggested rebuilding gnometerminal. I may try that since it seems like a harmless road to go down.
