You should also add the following to /etc/make.conf: NOPROFILE=true You can find info on how to set maximum optimizations with gcc 3.2 here: http://www.freehackers.org/gentoo/gccflags/flag_gcc3opt.html (Originally written for gentoo linux, but should work with FreeBSD too). A warning though, NEVER compile world and your kernel using all these flags unless you are prepared to reinstall. My system failed once simply because I used CFLAGS = "-O3 -pipe" instead of "-O2 -pipe".
