Panic creating ttyv0

After building yesterdays's CURRENT kernel, I get:

    WARNING: Driver mistake
    repeat make_dev("ttyv0")
    panic: don't do that

The kernel config is pretty much GENERIC with two or three lines changed
to enable SMP.
