Yes, for the particular case you mention.  But others do not want to
start their MTA daemon from /etc/rc (or don't want to start any daemon)
and now need:

sendmail_enable="NO"
sendmail_outbound_enable="NO"
sendmail_msp_queue_enable="NO"
sendmail_submit_enable="NO"

with "unsubscribe freebsd-current" in the body of the message
