I don't know much about all this; I tried vidcontrol later from the console
to at least be able to read a few more lines only to get some ioctl errors.
oh, yes, you can set font manually, set screen.font=16x32 for example. Only the
autoselect with EDID data available was missing the check. manual selection and
autoselect without EDID is ok.
