You could try installing xf86-video-intel and see if that makes a difference 
(in terms of artifacts, can’t imagine it has anything to do with the focus 
issue?!).

Unfortunately, I use the machine I have around that’s similar to yours for 
something productive at the moment, so I can’t update it to current to try 
myself.
