My very first attempt to play a sound with esd resulted in a panic. The following message came from syslog: NMI ... going to debugger I didn't copy anything down from DDB since much to my surprise when I typed 'continue' at the prompt I heard a horrible screeching, but then the system was ok. Subsequent attempts to play sounds (including the same sound that caused the panic at first) were all successful. If I get another panic I'll try to copy something useful down. I did notice the following new items in my boot probe. Also, some of the cheesy wav's that come with xfce that play on my vibra 16 at work don't play here with the SB Live. If anyone has any known-good wav files that I could use to test, I'd appreciate a reference. I haven't done the sound thing in a while now. :) The few that I do have exhibit a "helicopter" sound when I play them, although the sound is very clear other than that.
