I'm having a similar problem with the newpcm stuff.
I have a Intel PR440FX motherboard with builtin sound (Crystal Sound System)
It worked fine until the recent changes in pnp.
I can get it to work with the Voxware drivers no problem.
Here is the relevant part of my kernel config :
