OK, I have 2 problems, first the pnp stuff in the kernel is broken, when I took the pnp device out of the kernel, it boots without hanging. Second, the new pcm stuff doesn't work (at least not with my creative Vibra16X). If someone can tell me if the new pcm has full support (except midi, I don't use that) for the Aureal Vortex soundcard, I'll happily try that one, because I have one sitting around waiting for the driver.
