            Bug ID: 298810
Summary: Performance issues with sed in base
           Product: Base System
           Version: 15.1-RELEASE
          Hardware: amd64
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Some People
          Priority: ---
         Component: bin
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

The following command took several minutes with bsd sed:

cat access_log* |sed 's/^.*"\([^"][^"]*\)"$/\1/'

But only a few seconds in GNU sed:

cat access_log* |gsed 's/^.*"\([^"][^"]*\)"$/\1/'

I'm not sure how to reproduce the performance hit, except to use the same sed
statement on a similar httpd log.

I've noticed performance issues with BSD sed vs. GNU sed every great once in a
while, but not often enough to remember how it happened last time.
