So this time I removed my homebuilt tkl keyboard from the USB 3.0 hub and plugged it into the USB 2.0 port on the otherside of my laptop and will see what happens. The USB 3.0 hub is still connected with the trackball dongle, video camera and the focusrite 2i2 DAC.
