First "with patched kernel" has core.txt.4 suggesting
it predates the kernel change: the strcmp address did
not change address like would be expected:

instruction pointer     = 0x20:0xffffffff80cf0110

but the later "dmesg from crash" shows the code having moved
to a little later:

instruction pointer     = 0x20:0xffffffff80cf01d0

Also, core.txt.4 is a name from yesterday's activity: from an
Email from yesterday . . .
