I think I see the problem. We're calibrating using the i8254 timer, and the
corresponding timecounter has a pretty narrow mask so wraparound can occur
multiple times. I wonder if we should just skip late calibration if the i8254
is the only reference clock.
Could you please show a verbose dmesg from the broken kernel?
