It's also noteworthy that the zpool was a bit behind before the hang happened
(just upgraded, no reboot yet):
# zpool upgrade tank
This system supports ZFS pool feature flags.
Enabled the following features on 'tank':
sha512
skein
device_removal
obsolete_counts
zpool_checkpoint
And that it's using ashift=9:
