It seems like termcap entries are engraved in stone inside FreeBSD's code and cannot be modified in /etc/termcap >How-To-Repeat: Edit /etc/termcap Change any entry (say, for example xterm since it's the default) Apply the modifications using cap_mkdb cap_mkdb -f /usr/share/misc/termcap /etc/termcap
