This looks like a great idea !
I am also interested since I have two laptops (i.e.: HP ZBook 17 G3)
with an integrated fingerprint reader (i.e.: ID: 138a:003f - Validity
Sensors, Inc. - VFS495 Fingerprint Reader) that I do not find in the
list of supported fingerprint readers (cf:
https://fprint.freedesktop.org/supported-devices.html).
I hope there is some good documentation or guru to help us.
